Candles is built with a simple principle: your data is yours, and it stays on your device.

Candles does not collect, transmit, store on a server, or share any personal information. There are no accounts, no sign-in, no analytics, no tracking, no advertising identifiers, and no third-party SDKs that report your usage.
The birthdays you add — names, dates, groups, notes, and any other details — are stored locally on your iPhone using Apple’s standard on-device storage (SwiftData). This data is included in your device’s regular iCloud or iTunes backups if you have those enabled, the same way other app data is. Candles itself does not sync this information anywhere.
If you enable notifications, Candles schedules them locally on your device using iOS’s notification system. No notification content is sent through a server.
You can export your birthdays as a .birthdays file at any time from within the app. What happens to that file after you export it — emailing it, saving it to Files, AirDropping it, sharing it with someone else — is up to you and governed by the apps and services you use to move it.
Candles does not knowingly collect any information from anyone, including children under 13. The app is suitable for all ages.
If you email the support address listed on the support page, I’ll have whatever you choose to send me (your email address, the contents of your message, any attachments). I use that information only to respond to you and don’t share it with anyone. I delete support emails when they’re no longer needed.
If this policy ever changes, the updated version will be posted here with a new “Last updated” date. Since Candles doesn’t collect data, changes are likely to be small clarifications rather than substantive shifts.
